Student visa updates 

From 2024, there have been a series of changes to student and temporary graduate visas in Australia as set by the Australian Government’s . The seven important updates are as follows:

• A new financial requirement has been set in place. From May 2024, prospective students must show they have funds of at least $29,710.
• There are English language requirements for obtaining a student visa. From 5 May 2024, the will be an accepted test.
• From March 2024, the new (GS) requirement will be in place. The GS will give evidence to support your visa application.
• The minimum score for the English language requirement test will rise from 5.5 to 6 or equivalent. 
• From 1 July 2024, the length of stay for students post study has . However if you secure employment in a skilled job after your studies, you may be able to apply for the new four-year Skills in Demand visa. 
• The maximum eligible age for Temporary Graduate visa applicants is now 35 years old. Masters and PhD graduates will continue to be under 50 years old.
• Individuals holding a Visitor visa or a Temporary Graduate visa will not be able to apply for a Student visa while in Australia.

Step 1

Once your application to study has been successful, you will be sent a formal Letter of Offer. Carefully read through this document and accept. 

Step 2

The University of Canberra will send a Confirmation of Enrolment document to verify your enrolment in your chosen course. Keep this document as you will need it for your application. 

Step 3

You may need to provide the results of your English language test to prove you meet the minimum proficiency level.

Step 4

You will need to answer a list of questions as set by the GS requirement during your online application. Some of these questions will include your ties to family, economic circumstances, why you chose Australia, and how you will benefit from your course.
